I am an emerging artist living and working in rural Tasmania. My work is inspired by the coastal regions of Tasmania. As a child growing up in a township in South Africa, experiencing authentic wilderness was a distant and seemingly unattainable dream. Settling in Tasmania, an island renowned for its unspoiled natural environments ignited my creativity and inspired me to create paintings with the nature as my muse.
Its my way of understanding the Ecological and the universal systems we inhabit. These are natural systems with minimal human interference, which lack clear-cut boundaries.
My Painting are my attempt to merge my interests in photography, topography and landscape painting while experimenting with abstraction and fluidity.
The challenge is to create balance between the precision we sometimes expect to see in art making and the nebulousness of a free flowing medium. This form of abstraction allows me to produce representations of our natural surroundings.
