In many ways’ our home identifies how we live and see ourselves. To create that place that meets our needs and expresses our character, we enrich our lives. Our home space evolves when we focus on what makes us happy. This process requires reflection and thoughtful choices, but the result can be very rewarding with a huge impact on the way we feel. Changing the layout, or art selections, in rooms where we spend a large amount of time in can alter our perspective to help us relax, feel ourselves and most of all feel at home!
“Everyone discusses my art and pretends to understand—as if it were necessary to understand—when it is simply necessary to love.” - Claude Monet
A true home has that instant welcome feeling, and not just the décor. It has that authenticity, a genuine reflection of the person or family who live there.
Hanging favourite pieces of art can help to create a sense of home quickly – you don’t need lots of money or status to create a beautiful home. Allow yourself the luxury of time. Slowly adding to your collection can be a soulful and rewarding experience. When we focus on what we value – we can create our best spaces.
Art encourages us to be brave.
“I’ve been absolutely terrified every moment of my life and I’ve never let it keep me from doing a single thing that I wanted to do.” - Georgia O’keefe
Being an artist is not an easy path. It often requires deep sacrifice both financially and socially for periods at a time. It also opens us up to criticism. As anyone who has ever displayed a work of art, poetry, writing or even given a speech knows—putting yourself out there is making yourself vulnerable.
Having a work of art in your home encourages you to take risks and to embrace vulnerability—because the result is often something beautiful.
